Anneke Kaai- van Wijngaarden was born in Naarden, The Netherlands, in 1951. She married a Dutch Reformed minister and they have two children.

After completing her initial art-training, at the Gooise Academy for Fine Art in the Netherlands, Anneke Kaai studied at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam.

To the viewer it soon becomes clear that her work is inspired by the Bible and by her personal faith. Her paintings are quite literally "windows" to display her inspiration, which is intimately linked with her faith. Apart from her figurative work on the Book of Revelation, the style of Anneke Kaai may be described as abstract and symbolic. A wealth of Christian images is worked into her compositions.

Her first series, on the Creation, consists of sixteen paintings, followed by the series on the Book of relevation (Apocalypse) painted on silk. Then there came the series of twelve works on the Ten Commandments and twelve works on the Apostolic Creed (the book I Believe).

The next series is the collection of paintings on the Psalms, and after this, the series of the well-known Biblewords were made. In 2006 she ended the series about Relating to God. This year she's made 30 biblical paintings on Bible-women. All her series are painted on plexiglas (perspex), using oils and acrylics in combination with other materials. Only the Book of Revelation and a part of the series about The Creation are painted on silk.

Anneke Kaai exhibits her work regularly in The Netherlands, often in churches where there is an increasing interest in fine art. She has also been interviewed about her work on the Dutch television and radio in The Netherlands and the USA. Her paintings also periodically feature in magazines and newspapers. Anneke has exhibited her paintings in the United Kingdom and Switzerland. In the last years she has been invited by the Calvin Institute in Grand Rapids (United States of America) and the Navigators in Colorado-Springs. More information about the exhibitions click here.
