Women of the Bible Portrait Series

Anneke Kaai irecently finished a series of portraits on women of the Bible. At present she has completed 14 paintings, with more to be added. The portraits are all painted with acrylics on Plexiglas in a landscape format of 60x80 cm.

In these works the artist attempts to capture the character and emotions of the women. The series departs from the abstract and symbolic style for which Anneke has become known as she uses various different painterly forms, exploring techniques that range from classical portraiture to abstract formation, in her search for a contemporary language with which to convey the deep and often complex emotions of her subjects. The portraits that have been exhibited to date have had a warm reception from viewers.
